The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025, qualifiers was held in Johannesburg on Thursday July 4.
48 African nations will hope to qualify for the 35th edition of the biennial Africa show-stopper trying to depose Cote d’Ivoire as continental rulers.
The reigning champions have been set in a precarious group as they will prepare to defend their title.
The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire emerged champions after overcoming Nigeria 2-1 in the final of the continent’s competition in their home country Abidjan earlier this year.
Cote d’Ivoire have been placed in Group G where they will play Zambia, Sierra Leone and Chad.
Host Morocco were additionally positioned in Group B, and will pay Gabon, Central African Republic and Lesotho.
The Atlas Lions will approach this qualifying campaign with less pressure since they are already assured of participating in the competition on home ground.
The much-coveted trophy will be put back into play with the start of the qualifiers for the next TotalEnergies CAF AFCON which will take place in the North African country.
The qualifiers will begin in September 2024 and end in November 2024.
The first and runners-up in the eleven (11) groups that do not involve tournament hosts Morocco, will gain qualification to the competition.
