On the set of Eddie Murphy’s “The Pickup,” there was a serious accident that resulted in two vehicles flipping over and causing chaos.
Video of the accident was released on Wednesday, April 24, by the New York Times. An in the video, an SUV and an armored truck collided and the SUV flips over after veering off the track.
After driving parallel to the SUV, an armored truck rams into it. The impact sends the two vehicles sliding off the street and into the grass. After that, the truck rolled over the SUV, and both vehicles did a 360-degree turn before landing on their tires. At the end of the footage, a person’s body is seen dangling from the armored truck door.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established; However, reports suggest that the truck and SUV were supposed to collide as part of a planned stunt in the film.
Amazon Studios has released a statement regarding the accident on the set. The producer and distributor of the film being referred to, has spoken:
“On April 20, an accident occurred on the set of The Pickup during a rehearsed second unit action sequence. Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result. We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering,” a spokesperson for the studio said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to sources cited by The New York Times, a number of individuals who were part of the stunt scene were injured.
“The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot,” the Amazon spokesperson added.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as reported by the New York Times, is looking into the crash that resulted in numerous injuries on the set of ‘The Pickup’.
Following the fatal accident, the injured were quickly rushed to a local clinic, with one of them supporting a back injury. The crash that took place at a small airport outside of Atlanta did not involve any of the film’s actors, including Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, or Pere Davidson.
