The Induction Of New Chartered Bankers In Ghana

At its 16th Induction and Graduation Ceremony, the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana) celebrated the induction of 110 new chartered bankers, greatly increasing the number of chartered members in the institute’s professional community to 1,127 over the previous five years.

The event’s theme was “Career Beyond Qualification: Navigating Horizon Risks.”

Robert Dzato, CIB’s CEO, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to producing reliable financial industry professionals.

He said while they work to fulfill their mandate of encouraging banking research and overseeing the banking industry‘s operations in Ghana, they also want to prioritize professionalism and ethics.

The Ethics Certification, the redesigned flagship ACIB qualification, the Chartered Banker for Executive Leadership (CBEL) Program, the ESG Certification, and the launch of its Banking Academy, which aims to train professionals, are just a few of the initiatives that CIB Ghana has been implementing for a number of years to improve the qualifications of its members.

According to Mr. Dzato, the purpose of these programs is to give bankers the tools they need to deal with the changing financial environment.

Meanwhile, there has been a significant improvement in the representation of women among chartered bankers.

Women make up 60% of this year’s graduands and inductees, compared to 51% of chartered bankers in 2023.

Benjamin Amenumey, the president of CIB Ghana, urged the recently chartered bankers to respect the profession’s ideals. He stated:

“You are not just graduates; you are ambassadors of ethics and professionalism. Your journey begins now, and the responsibilities you carry are significant. Make a difference.”

Among the inductees, the ceremony also honored exceptional individuals. The oldest graduate, Evans Sarfo-Kantanka, 55, is the CEO of Kumawuman Rural Bank, while the youngest, Ian Kofi Bo Arthur, 25, is employed with GCB Bank Plc. Hilda Agyapong, a team lead at Access Bank Ghana Plc and the overall best inductee, received recognition for her outstanding work.
