The Inexhaustible Diego Maradona To Be Honoured

On December 14, FC Barcelona and Club Atlético Boca Juniors will play in a Maradona Cup, a friendly game to honour the memory of the incomparable Diego Armando Maradona a little more than a year after his death.

The match will be played at the Mrsool Park, in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, which holds 25,000 spectators.

Barça and Boca are, obviously, two of the clubs that engaged the services of Maradona, who is regarded as perhaps the greatest player at any point to grace the game. Diego Maradona died on the 25th of November 2020.

Maradona initially played for Boca Juniors in the 1981/82 season, winning Metropolitano Championship and procuring capability for the Libertadores Cup. He got back to the club from 1995 to 1997, his last two seasons prior to resigning as a player.

Armando Maradona was additionally at FC Barcelona, where he played for two seasons (from 1982 to 1984) and made 58 appearances. Between this periods, he won three titles, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup and the now outdated Spanish League Cup.

Barça and Boca Juniors have met multiple times before, most as of late for the Joan Gamper Trophy in 2018, which Barça won 3-0. This will be the second time the club has played in Saudi Arabia, after the country hosted the Spanish Super Cup in 2020, and which it will do again in January 2022.
