According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Member of Parliament for the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, Ghana’s judiciary is overly politicized and needs to be reformed.
The outgoing President did that during his administration, according to Kwakye Ofosu, who is also John Mahma’s special assistant. He said this in an interview with OB on Asempa FM on Monday, January 6, 2025.
He claimed that President Akufo-Addo overly politicized the judiciary, which had a number of effects on the country.
He went on to say that, since there should be enough checks and balances, every president should be afraid to even include the judiciary in politics.
“For instance, if there is even the slightest indication of partisanship, when a budget is presented to Parliament, we have to approve it. If not, we are unable to establish robust institutions whose sole goal is to ensure economic growth”.
“As of right now, we are acting as though there is a separation of powers, but in reality, almost every institution has destroyed the executive’s tools.”
According to the MP, in order for the next generation to have confidence in them, they need to fix so many things for the benefit of Ghana and the people in general in Parliament. Kwakye Ofosu added that they should be able to strengthen those institutions before the current Parliament’s term ends.

John Mahama’s proposal to keep Alban Sumana Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament in the 9th Parliament was also touched on by Kwakye Ofosu.
He clarified John Mahama’s written statement.
“The truth is that, in this fourth republic, the president appoints every Speaker of Parliament. It’s an open secret out there. The only distinction with President-elect John Mahama’s is that a statement has been issued.
The mode should only be changed, he continued.
With 11,100 votes, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, running on the National Democratic Congress ticket, was elected MP of the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency in the 2024 parliamentary election. He was previously the Deputy Information Minister as well.
