The Music Structure In Ghana Is ‘Strange’— Flowking Stone

Flowking Stone

Flowking Stone— a Ghanaian rapper, has criticized the country’s music royalty collection system, claiming that it is significantly inferior to that of other countries and even the rest of the world.

On Onua TV, he was giving an interview to Captain Smart when he made these statements. The incredible rapper claims that earnings as little as GHC 200 for a whole job done over the year is extremely painful.

According to Flowking Stone, Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) once gave him less than GHC 200, which he believes is heartbreaking.

The award-winning rapper went on to tell Captain Smart that the structure could be improved to its full potential, but he just can’t fathom why the collection system is still lagging behind, making Ghanaian artists complain all the time.

He believes that, GHAMRO can do better as an organization tasked to represent the rights of music copyright holders. He relates how he and Okyeame Kwame enlisted the assistance of a Swedish collection agency in order to assist GHAMRO to properly collect musicians’ royalties.

He said, talks between the said organization and GHAMRO happened to some point, but later vanished inexplicably. In fact, the talks did not result in anything.
