The NPA Boss Issues A Strong Warning To NDC Members Engaged In Illegal Mining

Edudzi Tameklo

Members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have received a strong warning from Mr. Edudzi Tameklo, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), not to participate in galamsey, or illegal mining.

Mr. Tameklo, who is also the NDC’s Director of Legal Affairs, emphasized that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama will not tolerate any kind of illicit mining, particularly by party members.

“Anyone within the NDC who chooses to engage in galamsey is on their own. President Mahama will deal with you brutally. If you decide to go down that path, know that you have positioned yourself as an enemy of the President, his government, and the NDC. You are, in fact, an environmental terrorist”, he said.

Mr. Tameklo also responded to accusations that certain NDC members are allegedly engaging in illegal mining because they feel more confident now that the party has taken back power on January 7, 2025.

He made it plain that no government official or party official will step in to defend individuals caught disobeying the law when he spoke on TV3 on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

“So, if you decide to do any of these things, don’t for a minute assume that something will happen and there will be a call for ‘order from above,’” he stressed. “If you are expecting someone to respond to that order, you won’t find Dr. Omane getting involved.”

Instead of participating in actions that damage the environment and the government’s reputation, he urged party members to look into legal business opportunities.

“In the name of God, there are a lot of legitimate businesses you can do as an NDC member in this government. Don’t be the one to cause problems for Mahama’s government,” Tameklo appealed.

In recent weeks, the military has been deployed to key galamsey hotspots, leading to multiple arrests as part of the crackdown.
