The Official Unveiling Of The “Blue Water Initiative” To Fight Galamsey

To counteract the environmental effects of illicit mining, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has launched the “Blue Water Initiative” and trained the first group of “River Guards.”

President Mahama’s commitment to safeguarding and rebuilding Ghana’s environment while cleaning up contaminated waterways is shown in this action.

“We are delighted to announce the beginning of the Blue Water Initiative” and the training of the first batch of “The River Guards” as part of President Mahama’s commitment to protecting and restoring our environment while repairing polluted water bodies,” the Lands Minister said.

The River Guards will protect Ghana’s rivers from the damaging impacts of illicit mining operations by acting as watchful stewards of the waterways.

These guards will continue to keep an eye on the nation’s most vulnerable waterways.

The River Guards training program has already been formally unveiled at the Western Region’s Ezlinbo Naval Base.

With numerous water bodies now tainted by mercury and other hazardous chemicals used in illicit gold extraction, the program is a response to the catastrophic effects of galamsey on Ghana’s once-pristine rivers and streams.
