Tema West NPP Chairman Kwasi Poku claimed in an appearance on Angel FM’s morning show on April 3, 2025, that President Mahama’s repeal of the E-Levy tax is a calculated attempt to deceive Ghanaians.
Kwasi Poku underlined that the country’s economic problems go beyond the elimination of the E-Levy, implying that more all-encompassing solutions are needed to address them.
He said, the fact that President Mahama was being filmed by roughly 20 cameras at the Jubilee House when he signed the abolishment of the E-Levy is what most perplexes him.
He went on to say that, although former President Nana Akufo-Addo eliminated roughly fifteen taxes during his administration, Ghanaians were unaware of this because there were no cameras on him.
He therefore firmly feels that the abolition of the E-Levy tariffs by the current administration is a ruse to trick Ghanaians into thinking the administration has done something unprecedented.

Political debate in Ghana has centered on the e-levy, a tax on electronic financial transactions, with differing views on its implementation and eventual repeal.
Chairman Poku has consistently stated that this E-Levy is a hoax that would eventually be known by Ghanaians.
