The Strange Reason Why You Shouldn’t Share Photocopies Of Your Ghana Card

Ghanaians have been encouraged to oppose endeavors by any organization to photocopy their Ghana Card for transactions.

Insisting on institutions verifying the cards in accordance with the National Identification Authority (NIA) regulation is the best course of action.

When some representatives of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization and a number of its agencies paid him a visit, Moses Baiden, CEO of Margins ID Group, issued a warning to Ghanaians regarding this act.

The staff of the ministry and the agencies observed the intricate processes involved in producing the Ghana Card and to understand the various purposes the secure database can serve.

This visit also made it clear how important it is to use national identification systems in a legal way. It also made it clear that proper education and enforcement are needed to protect people’s identities and help the country’s plans for a digital economy.

The Ghana Digital Centre, the Cyber Security Authority, the Data Protection Commission, the Ghana Domain Names Registry, Ghana Post, and the National Communications Authority (NCA) were among the organizations that took part of this meeting.

The National Information Technology Agency, the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology, and the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission round out the remaining organizations.

Mr Baiden further forewarned that copying, sharing screen captures and dispersing delicate duplicates of the Ghana Card is simply not right. He stated that the cardholder would be vulnerable to identity theft if the Ghana Card were reproduced in this manner.

Mr. Baiden went on to say that the NIA system required individuals to present themselves and provide fingerprint verification, which generated an audit code linked to the transaction, saying “this method ensures a high level of security and authenticity in identity verification”.

He also pointed out that the primary challenge in the country’s data protection and identification efforts “is not related to data collection or technology but rather to attitudinal and enforcement issues.”

In order to adopt best practices and make informed decisions, Margins ID Group’s CEO urged institutions to fully familiarize themselves with the NIA system.
