The luxury ship known as “The World” has 165 privately owned apartments that range in size from 290 square feet for studios to 3,240 square feet for four-bedroom homes.
Minarik and his wife planned to spend one to two months a year on the ship when they bought their apartment in 2020. However, they now spend up to half of the year aboard, he stated.
Interestingly, many residents hire interior designers to decorate their apartments and bring their own furniture on this ship.
As a community, they find so much love here. As a matter of fact, being on the boat is relaxed and comfortable, on the grounds that, they get to see something new like clockwork.
The aforementioned couple was so captivated by the onboard experience that they ultimately purchased a second, larger apartment on “The World,” leaving the first apartment for friends and family.
“The World,” like many cruises, has a lot of restaurants and bars, yoga classes, a gym, two pools, a medical center, and room service all the time.
In May 2024, “The World” docked in Singapore. Around 150 occupants live on the boat during the year, however this number for the most part duplicates during expedition trips and year-end events. In addition, itineraries change annually, according to Residential Director Eddie Wong.
The 2026 schedule is already set in stone. Each year, The World’ stops in around 100 ports for two to five days rather than just a few hours.
According to Wong, “The World” publishes photo books following its expedition trips, which in 2024 include trips to Antarctica, the Kimberley region of Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.
The majority of owners come and go as they please, though a few live on the ship full-time.
Minarik claimed that after cruising from South America to South Africa, he and his wife disembarked in Cape Town and spent two weeks on safari before returning to Orange County, California. He stated that the ship had moved up the west coast of Africa by the time the group of friends they were traveling with caught up with it again.
Numerous owners are North Americans, yet there are occupants from around 20 unique ethnicities who come and have a good time, especially Australians who come in their numbers ready.
Minarik, who used to be the CEO of a large company that made consumer electronics, said that all of the owners have made some money.
Purchase price for homes range from $2.4 million to $15 million — a figure which does exclude quarterly upkeep expenses, which can be around 10% of the price tag yearly.

Maintenance fees accompany $33,000 worth of food and refreshment credits on board the boat, but they also pay for group, redesign and upkeep to the boat, which has a regular tennis court.
Minarik asserts that it is impossible to keep up with the Joneses because there are numerous billionaires, regardless of wealth. As a result, you talk about how much you enjoy traveling and the experiences it offers.
He said that one of his shipmates is an 82-year-old man who gives charity “more money than I could even imagine.” What do they discuss? Jumping,” said Minarik.
Potential buyers are vetted, Wong said. In addition to financial and criminal checks, he said, buyers need two letters of recommendation from an existing resident.
Every year, about 10% of residences go up for sale, as per a company representative. The average length of ownership is seven to eight years. By that time, owners have seen most of the world several times over. Others leave to be closer to specialized medical care or to spend more time with family.
Minarik agreed that being away from his family the majority of the time is his biggest challenge. He claimed that the way he and his wife plan their lives is to strike a balance between their love of family and travel.
‘The World’ is still the only ship of its kind. Residents can cook in their apartments using groceries bought in ports or in a store on board that stocks produce and gourmet items.
