There Are Envious Tongues Against The Great King Of Asante – COP Kofi Boakye

Former Ashanti Regional Police Commandant, Nathan Kofi Boakye, has revealed in a recent interview that, some people harbor envy towards the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. But according to him, such individuals tear down the King essentially on the grounds that he outperforms them in greatness.

He referred to the Twi maxim, “wo sene wo yonko a ɔtan wo,” which means “when you are more prominent than your companion, he begrudges you” in English.

The well known senior Police officer accentuated that he can’t fathom the reason why such individuals will hold onto that evil inclination for the King, despite the beneficial things he has been projecting in the Ashanti region and in Ghana as a whole. Kofi Boakye further said, beyond the well-known Otumfuo Foundation’s contributions to education, Asantehene has elevated the status of Asanteman on the global stage.

“Forget about the Education Fund. There are tangible and intangibles. Tangibles are the things you can see, and intangibles are the spirit. If you look at how Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has made Asante known worldwide. Look at how he met King Charles. King Charles has been here in Ghana twice, which town has he visited?”

He called upon Asanteman to come together and rally behind their King, particularly the prosperous citizenry. Kofi Boakye also added that specific towns and communities are developing faster than Asanteman because of an absence of solidarity.

“As we celebrate 25 years, those of us in NPP or NDC as Asantes should come togther and support Otumfuo and see the development Asanteman will have. Now some are developing more than us and it is not Otumfuo’s fault, we the Asantes, rich men should support Otumfuo. Our lack of togetherness has given some people the chance to do whatever they want to us.”

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II:

Osei Tutu II, born Nana Barima Kwaku Duah is the 16th Asantehene, enstooled on 26 April 1999. By name, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is in direct succession to the 17th-century founder of the Ashanti Empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu I.

The 73 year-old King of the Ashantis is also the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is the Grand Patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana and the Sword Bearer of the United Grand Lodge of England.
