After announcing his retirement in 2022, actor Jim Carrey has just resumed performing. In “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which debuted in December 2024, he is playing Dr. Ivo Robotnik again.
With a hilarious justification, Carrey revealed why he is returning, “I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly”.
In the movie, Carrey plays Gerald Robotnik, Robotnik’s grandfather, in addition to Dr. Robotnik.
Carrey’s earlier remark that he would only return for a script “written in gold ink” was noteworthy when the script for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was presented to him in 24-carat ink.
In terms of the future, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” debuted on Paramount+ on February 18, 2025, and as a result of its successful box office run, Paramount is working on Sonic the Hedgehog 4, a sign of Carrey’s ongoing participation in the franchise.
