There is a catch to an enormous Scottish castle that is up for sale for more than £37,000 (£30,000). Its current owners estimate that it requires an extra £12 million ($14.8 million) for rebuilding.

Brough Lodge is in one of the UK’s most remote areas. It is on Fetlar, the fourth largest of the Shetland Islands.

According to the Fetlar Community Association website, the island now has 69 residents, up from 48 at its lowest point in early 2009.

The castle, perched atop a hill, has a view of the grassland of Fetlar, the rugged cliffs that drop to the sea, and the islands that surround it.

Local merchant Arthur Nicolson built Brough Lodge in 1825 in a Gothic style that was said to have been influenced by his trips to Europe.

It has been unfilled since the 1970s, in spite of the fact that it was made breeze and watertight around a long time back by its flow owners, the Brough Hotel Trust, following a raising support crusade.

The Brough Lodge Trust is looking for “a philanthropic entrepreneur” who can transform the castle into a 24-bedroom retreat, and has already received several expressions of interest, according to a statement by officials.

According to a statement issued by the trust director Drew Ratter, several potential investors have communicated with the selling agents of the castle, with some of them traveling to Fetlar to view the Lodge and discuss the possibilities with trustees.

In addition, the statement stated that they are examining a detailed proposal from a potential buyer. However, they would still be interested in hearing from other philanthropic business owners because they want the best outcome for the Fetlar community and the building.

The trust hopes that guests will come to the retreat to participate in a variety of cultural activities, such as yoga and guided wildlife tours, as well as Shetland’s famed textile making.

The Brough Lodge, a 40-acre property with a category A listed building, will be transformed into a world-class retreat that will delight all visitors.

Up to 24 double bedrooms and other essential amenities, such as an elevated dining room, would be provided by the new accommodation, which would be sensitive to its setting.

Additionally, it is anticipated that up to 14 jobs will be created for the island community, which has traditionally had few employment opportunities.

The trust said that the money from the sale will help it keep Shetland’s hand-knitting tradition alive by paying for tuition for kids in local schools.
