The First Black Woman to Graduate from Johns Hopkins Hospital’s..

Ghanaian neurosurgeon, Dr. Nancy Abu-Bonsrah is the first black woman to graduate from Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Neurosurgery Program.

After seven years of residency, Dr. Abu-Bonsrah completed the program in June 2024.

In 2017, she became the first black woman to be accepted into the program, making history.

She additionally burned through five years in the clinical program at Johns Hopkins before her neurosurgery residency.

She received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2017, and the Global Health Scholarship and MPH Scholarship Awards helped her complete her Master of Public Health degree in 2022.

Dr Abu-Bonsrah right now works at the UPMC Williamsport hospital in Pennsylvania, U.S. She is married to a Ghanaian doctor, Kwabena Yamoah, who is also an expert in interventional radiology.
