A segment in memory of late NFL player OJ Simpson shocked the crowd at the auditorium of the BET Awards 2024, followed by surprise applause. Meanwhile, apart from OJ Simpson, several other celebrities including Cobbs, Carl Weathers, Willie Mays, Clarence Avant, Maurice Hines, and Richard Roundtree were honored at the Awards ceremony.
OJ Simpson, a former American football player, was featured in the “in memoriam” segment of the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Severalpeople, including those present at the ceremony, were supposedly shocked by the decision.
Sadly, when others in the category’s photographs were shown, the crowd applauded but a rush of quiet cleared over the crowd when Simpson’s photograph showed up.
It was stated in the photographs that Simpson was a “former NFL player.” Following the snapshot of quietness, the audience were especially shocked. In fact, there audience reactions, but weren’t limited to them.
The 24th BET Awards came off at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 30, 2024. For the third consecutive year, Taraji P. Henson hosted the award ceremony.
Simpson played foothall in the NFL specifically for the Bison Bills. He was, notwithstanding, entangled in many controversies after his ex, Nicole Brown, was killed in 1994. Regardless of being blamed for killing Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman, OJ Simpson was purportedly vindicated of all charges in the criminal trial.
In April 2024, OJ Simpson also died. Despite being absolved of homicide allegations, his reputation was always discolored. In addition, he was arrested in 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and charged with kidnapping and armed robbery. He was sentenced to 33 years in jail but was released in 2017.
Meanwhile, a number of artists such as Drake, SZA, J Cole, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Tyla, Usher, and Beyoncé, were nominated at the BET Awards. A total of seven nominations were received by Canadian rapper Drake.
There were several performances from well-known artists at the award ceremony on Sunday. The event featured performances by Megan Thee Stallion, Will Smith, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Coco Jones, Latto, and Keke Palmer.
