
On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the Zion School Park Kakraba Adade in the Gomoa East District hosted the inaugural Waakye festival.
Wise Ink Concepts, who also organised THE Koforidua Fufu Party and the Koforidua Marathon, put on the event, which attracted attendees from all over.
The culinary event took place at The Zion School Park Kakraba Adade in the Gomoa East District from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Waakye, a popular Ghanaian dish, was the focus of the festival. With so many people participating, it was a beautiful event that will stay in people’s minds for a long time.
It was held with the theme: Community Revitalisation Through A Cultural Culinary Festival.
It included a noteworthy arrangement of local and international food, cooking shows, free health screening, free dental screening; Game Park, playgrounds, fun games including, face painting, bouncy castles and trampoline for kids.
Rap battles, dancing, and eating competitions were other activities that went on.

There were over 30 food stalls that offered a diverse range of dishes, from traditional favourites to innovative creations.
The highlight was when guests were entertained by live performances and music. Furthermore, people had the potential chance to decide in favor of their number one food vendor.
Naturally, the event included a meet-and-greet with prominent Ghanaian celebrities.
Ghanaian artists Koo Ntakra, Santrofie, Babylow, Fresh wan GH, Bush Girl, Vapour, Shata Ratty and other extraordinary surprises performed.
“Waakye” originated from the Hausa word shinkafa da wake,” which means rice and beans.
The dish is popular in Northern Ghana among the Hausa communities, whose staple crops are rice and beans.
