This Year’s Chale Wote Street Art Festival Has Started

The 14th Chale Wote Street Art Festival opened in Accra on Monday, August 19, 2024.

Participants in all-white attire made their way through the Osu township in a procession that served as the event’s opening act.

In the Christiansborg Castle, a group of people made declarations, one of which was the opening of the Shika Shika Art Fair in the Garden.

On the first day of the Chale Wote Street Art Festival, additional activities included: Osu Klottey School of African Music’s royal music performance, Dagara Music Centre’s performance, Nyonmo Y3 Jen Cultural Group’s dance performance, a film screening, and discussions.

At the Blackstar Square, the festival with the theme “And Now An End To The Empire Of Horrors” began on Monday, August 19, and will run until August 25.

The festival looks at the place’s history from its beginnings and how it died and how its sacred sciences, which were lost and buried with the giants, are now being revived.

This year’s event is no exception to the tradition of bringing art’s beauty to life through entertainment.

During the festival period, organizers are also working on including salons and labs for sharing knowledge with the youth.

From August 10 to August 18, 2024, the one-week festival saw selected artists release their works for display from the beginning to the end.

The festival’s official media partner is The Multimedia Group for a second year in a row.

Multiple community-based performance, dance, and brass band groups also performed the story in a musical theater piece called “Memory Movement Freedom.”

The 14th Chalewote Street Art Festival is expected to be better than the previous event.

Accra [dot] ALT, Redd Kat Pictures, and Chale Wote Street Art Projekt collaborated to organize it.
