The Universal Exposition Expo 2025 Osaka, formally known as Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, is presently taking place on Yumeshima Island, a man-made island in Osaka Bay. The event lasts for 184 days, from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
“Designing Future Society for Our Lives” is the main theme of this year’s expo, with the following sub-themes: Japan Travel
In order to address important issues like sustainability, health, and technological innovation, the expo hopes to provide a forum for international cooperation. The idea of a “People’s Living Lab” is in line with its encouragement of participants to collaborate on solutions for a better future.
Yumeshima Island, a reclaimed landmass in Osaka Bay, serves as the venue for the expo. The Grand Ring, a 2-kilometer circular timber ring created by architect Sou Fujimoto, is a notable architectural landmark. This building has drawn notice for its architecture as well as the sizeable amount of the expo’s money it represents. It is a symbol of unification.
Each of the more than 160 participating nations and organizations will display their inventions and cultural heritage in specially created pavilions.

Approximately 28 million people are expected to attend the expo, according to organizers. However, only roughly 9 million tickets have been sold as of the first week, which is less than the initial target. The event has also faced challenges such as construction delays and budget overruns, with the total cost rising to approximately ¥235 billion ($1.64 billion).
