A simplified procedure intended to make registration more effective and convenient for Ghanaians is anticipated to result in no queues during the next SIM card re-registration operation in Accra, Ghana.
This was declared by Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister of Communication, while he was in Accra visiting Margins ID Group (Intelligent Card Production Systems).
Citizens would register their SIM cards online, eliminating the need for in-person trips to registration offices, the Minister said. By automatically verifying citizen information, the technology will cut down on the amount of time spent on manual processing.
The registration process will be more convenient for citizens; thanks to this expedited procedure, which will also increase accuracy and save time. Citizens should anticipate a simple SIM card registration process as the June launch draws near.
Due to low registration rates, the government repeatedly extended the deadline for the SIM card re-registration process, which started in 2021. All SIM card customers must re-register their cards using their Ghana Card, which is their national identity document, as part of the operation.
In the past, registration rates were low. Due to the fact that millions of SIM cards were still in use, the government decided to extend the deadline.
Concerns over data security and the possibility of fraudulent registrations through the mobile app were voiced by some Ghanaians.
This time, the government wants to improve national security by lowering crimes and fraudulent activity made possible by unregistered SIM cards.
Additionally, the government will ensure correct information on legitimate SIMs for better industry regulation.
