At Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on July 26, 2025, Ghana’s Asante Kotoko won the 2025 Toyota Cup after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3–2 in a penalty shootout.

After regular time, the game ended in a 0-0 draw, which led to a heated shootout. Mohammed Camara, the goalie for Kotoko, was the player who stole the show.

Even though Kotoko missed three of their own penalty kicks, the valiant goalie was the day’s hero, stopping four to win the championship. During regular time, Inacio Miguel, the captain of the Chiefs, missed a crucial penalty in the 83rd minute that would have guaranteed victory.

With his spectacular saves, Camara silenced the home crowd with a strong performance and a commanding effort that ensured he saved his team.

The 25-year-old Guinean goalie for Kotoko is currently the first-choice goalie for Asante Kotoko SC, the top club in Ghana.

After 26 league games, Camara left Guinea’s Soar Academy to sign a two-year contract with Asante Kotoko SC in July 2024.

As part of a team overhaul, he was Kotoko’s tenth summer transfer.

His “exceptional agility, fast reflexes, and ability to command his area” were complimented by head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum at the time, who described him as a perfect fit for the club’s goals.

Camara attributes his decision to join Kotoko to former captain Amos Frimpong, who cited the team’s desire and encouraging atmosphere as major factors.

He soon emerged as Kotoko’s top pick— first-choice goalkeeper, displacing the previous starter Frederick Asare and forming a solid trio with Asare and backup Fatao.

In the 2024–25 season, Camara featured in 17 league matches, kept 8 clean sheets, and was vital in Kotoko’s FA Cup triumph, playing throughout the final.

He earned the NEGO Goalkeeper of the Month award for December/January, during which Kotoko had a six-match unbeaten run, kept three clean sheets, and conceded just three goals total.

In July 2025, he reportedly agreed to a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2028—underscoring his integral role at the club.

Camara has also earned two senior caps for Guinea, making him a capped international goalkeeper with experience at national level. He’s viewed as a long-term asset for both Kotoko and possibly Guinea.
