
The Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the School of Public Health has held an event to honour its former heads of Department.
Former heads, Dr. Matilda Pappoe, Prof. Phillip Baba Adongo and Prof. Phyllis Dako-Gyeke, were recognized for their committed service and contributions to the growth of the Department.
The event was graced by the Dean of the School of Public Health, Prof. Kwasi Torpey, and Prof. Emmanuel Asampong, the Head of the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, among others.
In his welcome remarks, the Dean, Prof. Kwasi Torpey, was definite about the importance of recognising the hard work and commitment of the Department’s distinguished former staff.
He offered his thanks to the Founding Faculty of the Department for their endeavors and commitment, which has brought the Office this far. He empowered the current members of the Dept. to keep pursuing the accomplishment of the vision and mission of the University.

As per the Head of the Department, Prof. Emmanuel Asampong, honoring the past Departmental heads was just fitting. He announced the establishment of a three-member committee, chaired by Prof. Phyllis Dako-Gyeke, which would focus on documenting the history of the Department.
He noted that the said committee would oversee the creation of an award scheme to reward the hardworking staff and supervise the refurbishment of the Department’s facilities, among other initiatives.
One of the honorees, Dr. Franklin Glozah, a senior lecturer at the Department, provided a brief historical overview of the School of Public Health, highlighting the year of its establishment and throwing light on the process of decentralising the School’s academic activities to several departments.
“These departments have been instrumental in offering programmes such as the bachelor’s degree in public health, master’s degree in Public Health, Ph.D. in Public Health, and more,” he stated.
On behalf of the Department, Prof. Kwasi Torpey and Prof. Emmanuel Asampong, presented plaques to the distinguished former heads in recognition of their work and significant contributions to the Department. The awardees expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the honour bestowed on them.
