On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, singer Efya made an appearance on Accra FM as part of her radio tour to promote her new song, “Radar.” Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the president of Burkina Faso’s name came up during the conversation with Nana Romeo. The presenter asked Efya her thoughts about the president, particularly since he seized power in a coup.
Despit the fact that Captain Ibrahim Traoré gained power through the overthrow, the multiple award-winning artist said, he has done a great job of redeeming himself. she said:
“H.E. Traoré’s works in his country have made a big impression on people all over the world. To the surprise of the public, he has performed so successfully that one would have assumed he would have messed things up when he came into office with that kind of overthrow. Because of this, he has gained the affection of both Africans and people worldwide, and it is a good thing to learn from him, Efya stated.
In a September 2022 coup, Captain Ibrahim Traoré took control of Burkina Faso. Since then, he has gained a lot of support, especially from young people and pan-Africanist groups who see him as an advocate for African unity and a symbol of resistance to foreign exploitation.
But his administration has also come under fire because of persistent security issues, human rights issues, and the extension of military rule.
