On Wednesday, March 5, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, the newly appointed governor of the Bank of Ghana, informed Parliament that the state, under the previous Nana Akufo-Addo administration, had paid $230 million to the contractor for the new BoG building project, with $31.8 million still owed to the construction company.
He also revealed that the contractor was just paid in February of this year, and that the project’s overall cost has increased to $261.8 million.
In response to this revelation, Professor Lord Mensah of the University of Ghana Business School stated that, notwithstanding Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama’s explanations, additional inquiries concerning the cost of the Bank of Ghana’s new headquarters are necessary.
Dr. Asiama said this in Parliament:
“As of February this year, a total of approximately $230 million has been paid towards the project, with an outstanding balance of $31.8 million still due to the contractor,” he stated in parliament on Wednesday, March 5.
Additionally, the Governor announced that an additional $48.3 million had been paid in taxes and levies related to the building’s development.

In his interaction with the media, Prof. Mensah said:
“To warrant this amount is very huge, even if it will cost us 230 million, The initial estimation calls for so many questions, I think we need to ask questions about the numbers.”
The BoG Governor also clarified that the project included a number of additional amenities in addition to the main building, such as a $8.6 million Network Infrastructure and Integrated Communication and Computing (ICC) system.
