We Won’t Be Intimidated By The New Patriotic Party – MP On Corruption Fight

Joseph Azumah

Hon. Joseph Azumah, Member of Parliament for Akrofuom Constituency, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption, declaring that no amount of intimidation or political pressure from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will deter efforts to bring corrupt individuals to justice.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Monday, June 2, 2025, Azumah was addressing the political tension surrounding the recent detention of NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. His detention has sparked strong reactions from within the NPP, with claims of political witch-hunting.

In response, Hon. Azumah stated,

“There is no intimidation or whatsoever from the NPP that will stop the government from prosecuting corrupt officials. We are committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting the public purse. The fight against corruption is not selective; it is a national priority.”

He stressed that the legal processes being undertaken are based on evidence and due diligence, not political bias or vendetta.

“If anyone, regardless of political affiliation, is found culpable, the law will take its course. No one is above the law,” he added.

Chairman Wontumi was reportedly detained last week over alleged involvement in a multi-million cedi mining-related corruption scandal. While details remain under investigation, the incident has drawn widespread public and political interest.

Hon. Azumah urged Ghanaians to support the government’s anti-corruption drive and not allow political distractions to derail justice.

“This is about Ghana, not parties or personalities. The people deserve transparency, accountability, and trust in their leaders,” he said.

The government has recently taken a stronger stance on corruption, with several high-profile investigations and prosecutions underway. While critics have accused the administration of targeting opposition figures, government officials maintain that their actions are guided by the law, not politics.

As the case unfolds, the nation watches closely, with growing public demand for justice, integrity, and an end to impunity in public office.
