King Goodwill Zwelithini passed on in April 2021, and his wife of 65 years old Queen Shiyiwe Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu was made the interim head of South Africa’s biggest ethnic group, Zulu.

Prior to King Zwelithini’s death, he named Queen Mantfombi as the regent. Lord Zwelithini, died from diabetes-related challenges at age of 72 on 12 March.

He was the longest-reigning Zulu ruler, who had six spouses and in excess of 25 children. Yet, King Zwelithini picked Queen Mantfombi as his replacement because of her regal status.
