Former IGP George Akuffo Dampare

Citing worries about his management style and its effects on the Ghana Police Service, a number of people, including some law enforcement officials, have voiced support for the dismissal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, the retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, described Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as “highly incompetent,” accusing him of creating division within the police force through political meddling and favoritism.

Dr. Agordzo said that Dampare’s leadership caused dissatisfaction among officers, with promotions allegedly based on personal preference rather than merit, leaving a demoralized workforce.

In addition to him, Commissioner of Police Mensah, COP George Alex Mensah, called Dr. Dampare the “worst IGP” in Ghana’s history and criticized his autocratic leadership style, claiming that it has caused a decline in officer morale, with many feeling frustrated and disillusioned.

He also claimed that Dr. Dampare’s leadership is autocratic, with decisions on promotions and transfers allegedly made without the customary consultative processes, which has caused disunity. Some officers have also accused Dr. Dampare of political bias, implying that his leadership style has caused discontent among the ranks and may have influenced their political inclinations.
