After a 20-year break, Will Smith has returned to music with the release of his fifth studio album, “Based On A True Story.” The 14-track album, which was published on March 28, 2025, includes collaborations with Big Sean, Teyana Taylor, and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Smith talked about important life events in this new project, particularly the 2022 Oscars incident involving comic Chris Rock. The first song, “Int. Barbershop – Day,” includes a skit in which customers talk about what happened following the tragedy, mirroring the subsequent public conversation.
The album gains a nostalgic touch from the collaboration with DJ Jazzy Jeff, which revives their previous musical cooperation.
