Wirtz Wonder: Liverpool Secure £116.5m Deal For The German Star

Florian Wirtz will join Liverpool for a British-record transfer fee of £116.5 million (€137.5 million), which includes £100 million and £16.5 million in possible add-ons. Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz is now free to talk to Liverpool.

The total fee is expected to exceed the £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023, but if the performance-related add-ons are completed, the fee will beat Liverpool’s own record and possibly set a British record. Darwin Nunez, a striker, was Liverpool’s last record-breaking acquisition in 2022.

When the player returns from his vacation the next week, his medical will take place. Liverpool had been keeping an eye on Wirtz, one of the Bundesliga’s most outstanding players from the previous season, along with several other elite European teams.

Before Liverpool completed the transaction, Wirtz stated that he preferred Merseyside to Bayern Munich, and Manchester City withdrew from the competition for his signature, allegedly because of the soaring expenses of the entire package.

A year after winning a league and cup double, the 22-year-old, who has played his entire professional career at Leverkusen, finished second to Bayern Munich with 10 goals and 12 assists in 25 games.

The Most Sought-After Players Open For The Summer Transfer

In last Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Portugal in the Nations League semi-final, Wirtz scored for Germany.

Robertson of Liverpool spoke about Wirtz during the Reds’ match against Bayern Leverkusen.

“He was excellent against us. He was the one causing problems, in the half space, running in behind, he can mix it up. That was enough for me to see he’s going to be a top player. In the Germany team against us he was excellent.

“If we get him through, an exciting talent through the door. We have already got a lot of exciting talent. He’s a right good player and he’ll only help us. If he does get through the door we’ll be excited to play with him.”

‘Wirtz gives Liverpool different attacking options’

Wirtz is one of the best midfield players in Europe and gives off loads more options. He has completed the most dribbles in Germany, that ability to glide by opponents without breaking stride setting him apart.
