The Afri Royal Hotel, owned by Ghanaian-Nigerian actress Yvonne Okoro, was destroyed by a large fire late on Friday, November 14, 2025. The hotel is situated at Ability Square in the Adjiringano neighborhood of East Legon, Accra, Ghana.
Parts of the hotel as well as surrounding residences and businesses were swiftly affected by the fire. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the response, but there have been no reports of visitor or civilian casualties. Authorities are looking into the reason, which is still unknown.
Around 10 or 11 p.m. GMT on November 14, 2025, the fire broke out in Adjiringano, a suburb in the Greater Accra Region that is frequently connected to East Legon. The mid-range hotel is owned by Yvonne Okoro, who has starred in numerous movies.
Household goods, furniture, and structural components were severely damaged as the fire spread to large areas of the hotel, including a chamber, a corridor, and a portion of a three-bedroom apartment. In addition, it destroyed a number of neighboring homes and set fire to several local businesses, transforming the region into a huge fire.
The building emitted smoke, and the night sky was illuminated by fire. According to reports, the hotel suffered significant damage, possibly making some areas unusable or uninhabitable.
Four fire pumps were sent by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from stations in Legon, Madina, National Headquarters, and Adenta in a prompt response.
In order to completely contain the fire by early Saturday morning, November 15, 2025, firefighters worked tirelessly through the night, depleting one water tank before filling up and deploying a second. Several firefighters fought the fire in the midst of tumultuous events, including large crowds of spectators.
Yvonne Okoro’s Reaction:
Yvonne Okoro was present at the scene and appeared visibly distraught in multiple videos shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. In one clip, she is seen standing near the burning building, looking overwhelmed and emotional as flames rage behind her, with firefighters hosing down the structure.
Meanwhile, an altercation occurred between firefighters and local civilians (described as “area boys”) amid the chaos. One unidentified man stabbed a firefighter in the hand with a knife, and another firefighter was injured when struck by a thrown block on his left shoulder. Both injuries were minor, as the stabbed firefighter was hospitalized, treated, and discharged.

The GNFS, through Accra Regional Fire Officer ACFO II Rashid Kwame Nisawu, has declared the stabber wanted and is offering a reward for information leading to his arrest. Social media speculation links the assailant to possibly starting the fire, but this remains unconfirmed and uninvestigated.
No deaths or injuries reported among hotel guests, residents, or bystanders. All were reportedly evacuated safely.
Cause and Investigation:
The origin of the fire is still undetermined, with no official statement from GNFS or police as of November 16, 2025. Preliminary theories from social media include electrical faults or arson, but these are unsubstantiated. Investigations are underway, and updates are expected.
This event marks a significant setback for Okoro, who launched the Afri Royal Hotel as part of her business portfolio in recent years.
