Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are all parties to a high-stakes $109 million lawsuit that Eminem filed against Meta Platforms.
The case was brought against Meta Platforms, the parent corporation of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, by the rapper’s publishing company, Eight Mile Style. Meta is accused of copyright infringement in the May 30 lawsuit.
According to Eminem, Meta permitted 243 of his songs to be used without permission across all of its platforms. The court docs claim that Meta’s features, like Original Audio and Reels, make it simple for users to steal Eminem’s songs.
The lawsuit says, these technologies encourage and permit users to exploit his music in videos without giving due credit or obtaining the necessary licensing. Eight Mile Style is therefore requesting damages exceeding USD 109 million.
Eminem claims that Meta stored, copied, and used his songs without permission, infringing on his copyright. The lawsuit seeks damages for lost revenues, any gains Meta made from the infringement, and the lowered value of the copyrights.
Eminem requested USD 109,350,000, the maximum statutory damages of USD 150,000 per song across all Meta platforms.
According to the lawsuit, users can quickly look up Eminem’s songs on Facebook and Instagram and utilize them in their Stories or Reels. Without proper licensing or credit, these uses harm the value of the original recordings.

In the filing, Eminem’s team lists each of the 243 songs in his catalog, which includes hits like “Love the Way You Lie”.
The Detroit rapper has often shared how important music is to his mental health.
“One of the great things about rap music is that you could put so much of your life in it,” he said during an interview on Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning in June 2022.
“It’s therapeutic and that’s how it’s always been for me.” His lyrics frequently touch on his difficult childhood and personal struggles.
The lawsuit also comes as Eminem continues to protect his artistic legacy.
