On Monday July 14, 2025, seasoned journalist and political commentator, Omanhene Kwabena Asante, expressed concern over what he describes as the growing bitterness within Ghana’s two main political parties — the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’ on Monday, July 13, Kwabena Asante said the escalating animosity between the NPP and NDC has reached worrying levels, especially following the recent violent clashes in the Ablekuma North constituency.
“The levels of bitterness in both the NPP and NDC have now risen sharply,” he remarked.
“There is so much personal hatred, suspicion, and mistrust — even among party members themselves. It’s toxic.”
According to him, the situation poses a danger to Ghana’s democratic growth. He called for introspection and maturity from political leaders, urging them to prioritize unity over division.
Omanhene also warned that if the trend continues unchecked, it could alienate the youth and independent voters who are growing disillusioned with the current political environment.
