Most People Claiming to Know Daddy Lumba Are Not Honest

Veteran music producer and former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has cast doubt on claims by several individuals who say they are close to highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Speaking in an interview with O.B. on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, July 28, Okraku Mantey stated emphatically that most of those asserting deep knowledge of the celebrated musician are not being honest. According to him, Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, is an extremely private and complex individual making it difficult for people to truly understand him — even within the music industry.

“Most people claiming they know Lumba so well are lying,” Okraku declared. “They don’t know him as deeply as they claim. Lumba is not someone you can easily get close to. He’s an eccentric individual who lives in his own world.”

“Daddy Lumba is not someone you can easily figure out. He keeps to himself and rarely lets people into his personal space,” Okraku Mantey said, stressing that the artist’s complex and private nature makes most public claims of familiarity misleading.

Describing the highlife icon as an extreme introvert, Okraku Mantey revealed that Lumba deliberately keeps a low profile and rarely allows people into his personal space, a trait that has contributed to the mystery surrounding him over the years.

He further explained that while Daddy Lumba’s music has had an enormous public impact, the man behind the music remains largely unknown, even to some of his close associates.

“Unless you’ve had a very long and consistent personal relationship with him — and even that is not enough — you can’t claim to know who Lumba truly is,” he added.

Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons, has maintained a reputation not only for his timeless hits and genre-defining albums but also for his reclusive lifestyle and unpredictability.
