Police, GoldBod Ghana Offer GH¢1 Million Reward For Gold Smuggling Suspects

The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with GoldBod Ghana, has placed a GH¢1 million bounty on some individuals suspected of engaging in gold smuggling activities.

The suspects named include: Muhammed Afsal Puthalan, Abdul Karim, Muhammed Nandoli, Rafeeq, and Sadique Abubakari. According to authorities, these individuals are believed to be key players in a network responsible for illegally channeling large quantities of gold out of the country.

The Police noted that the bounty is intended to encourage the public to provide actionable intelligence that will lead to the swift arrest of the suspects. They assured that all information received will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality, and the identities of informants will be protected.

GoldBod Ghana, in a statement, stressed that the fight against gold smuggling is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to assist in safeguarding Ghana’s mineral wealth. The company emphasized that illicit gold trade denies the state substantial revenue, weakens the formal mining industry, and tarnishes the country’s international image as a leading gold producer.
