Daddy Lumba’s Vigil Postponed: A New Date Yet to Be Announced

The Creative Arts Agency has announced the indefinite postponement of the scheduled vigil in honour of legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba. The vigil, which was set to celebrate the life and legacy of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba in Kumasi, has been put on hold in respect of the three-day national mourning declared by the government following the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of several government officials.

In a statement issued, the Agency explained that the decision to postpone the event was made out of deep respect for the nation’s current state of grief.

“In solidarity with the national mourning declared for the fallen government officials who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash, the Creative Arts Agency has decided to postpone the vigil that was scheduled in honour of highlife legend Daddy Lumba. A new date will be communicated in due course,” the statement read.

The vigil was part of a broader initiative by the Agency to celebrate the immense contribution of Daddy Lumba to Ghana’s music industry. The event was expected to bring together fellow musicians, industry stakeholders, and fans to pay tribute to the music icon.

However, with the country plunged into mourning, the Agency noted that it would be inappropriate to proceed with celebratory activities at this time.

The tragic crash, which occurred in the Ashanti Region, resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking government officials and military personnel, prompting President John Mahama to declare a period of national mourning, ordering all flags to be flown at half-mast.

The Creative Arts Agency extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and called on all creatives to join in mourning and reflect on the national loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen heroes. We ask the entire creative arts community to observe this period with solemnity as we honour their memory,” the statement concluded.

A new date for the Daddy Lumba vigil is expected to be announced after the national mourning period concludes.
