Government Communications team member, Godwin Mahama Ayaba, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its performance in the just-ended Akwatia by-election.
Speaking on Angel FM’s Morning Show on Tuesday, September 3, 2025, Mr. Ayaba said the ruling party went into the polls without any clear strategy or plan, a situation he believes contributed to their loss.
According to him, while the NDC executed a well-organized campaign that resonated with the people of Akwatia, the NPP appeared disorganized and failed to communicate any convincing message to the electorate.
“The NPP simply walked into this by-election with no strategy, no coordination, and no plan. The people of Akwatia saw through their weakness and rejected them,” Ayaba stated.
He further noted that the NDC’s victory in Akwatia was not accidental but a reflection of the hard work and unity within the party. He added that the outcome of the by-election should serve as a wake-up call to the NPP ahead of the 2026 general elections.
I Am Now Convinced NPP Cannot Retain Akwatia Seat
The Akwatia by-election has been a major talking point in Ghana’s political space, as it consolidated the NDC’s new supermajority in Parliament.
