Rwanda has significantly improved its defensive capability by starting to produce its own guns and ammunition domestically.
The Rwanda Enhanced Military Capabilities Organization (REMCO), a state-owned company under the Ministry of Defense, is leading this move.
REMCO presented a variety of indigenously produced military hardware during the first International Security Conference on Africa (ISCA 2025), which took place in Kigali. Assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, handguns, military tanks, and drones are among the weapons on display.
The DAN.338 sniper rifle, Galil ACE rifle, Tavor X95 rifle, and Jericho 941 handgun were among the particular weapons displayed. Rwanda’s partnership with Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), a well-known Israeli guns manufacturer, is reflected in these weapons.
In order to strengthen national security and lessen reliance on international arms suppliers, Rwanda has made a strategic shift towards self-reliance in military manufacturing with the creation of REMCO and the start of local arms production.
