The one week Observation of the late Ernest Kumi at Akwatia in the Eastern Region on Saturday turned dramatic when some officials of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were hooted at by a section of mourners believed to be members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Reports indicate that the NPP faithfuls at the event expressed strong disapproval of the NDC’s presence, insisting that they neither wanted the party’s representatives at the funeral nor their donations.
The development briefly created tension at the grounds as some NDC sympathizers attempted to present their condolence donation, but were met with chants and jeers from the crowd. The situation, however, calmed down shortly after, allowing the funeral rites to continue peacefully.
