On his Metro TV current-affairs show Good Evening Ghana (airing August 12, 2025), host Paul Adom-Otchere strongly rebuked Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene for speaking publicly about the crash, stating it was inappropriate for a sitting Minister of State to weigh in from a media platform on such an incident.
One of Paul’s main points is conflict of interest, which states that Dr. Amoakohene should refrain from making comments in the media that could jeopardize existing investigations or be interpreted as politicizing the catastrophe because she is a member of the Regional Coordinating Council, which is in charge of managing the disaster response.
Given that the black box had only just been recovered and inquiries were underway, Paul asserted that premature commentary could influence public opinion or reveal sensitive details.
The program already featured mourners and official statements. Inviting an individual directly involved could blur boundaries and pressure others to speak without full information—a scenario he cautioned against.
Paul emphasized that a recorded press briefing from the minister’s office would be vastly more appropriate. He urged support for a dignified, procedural response channelled through official statements—not thrust into a prime-time talk show.
According to Adom-Otchere, early public statements by ministers might conflate political opportunism with transparent leadership. Families and communities affected by the collision, he said, should be respectfully given time to await official results rather than unplanned remarks.
The crash investigation is still ongoing, with forensic experts examining data and wreckage to identify human or mechanical causes.
