Too Many Guns In The System – Bismark Brown Warns

Bismark Brown

Broadcast journalist Bismark Brown has raised serious concerns about the increasing number of illegal firearms circulating among criminal elements in Ghana, warning that the situation poses a significant threat to national security.

Speaking on his show “Epahoa Daben” on Happy FM on Thursday, July 10, Brown claimed that many so-called “fraud boys” and land guards in urban areas are in possession of illegal pump-action guns, often hidden under their car seats.

“There are too many guns in the system. These fraud boys and land guards are driving around with pump-action guns under their seats. That is what the police should be focusing on — not just arresting people over marijuana,” Brown stated passionately.

He criticized the security agencies, particularly the police, for prioritizing minor drug offenses over what he described as a more serious and immediate security concern involving armed criminal networks operating in towns and cities.

According to Brown, the unchecked spread of firearms — especially among youth engaged in cyber fraud and land disputes — risks creating conditions for more violence, intimidation, and lawlessness across the country.

His comments have sparked debate on social media, with many echoing his concerns and calling for a national crackdown on illegal firearms and better intelligence-led policing.
