Torkornoo’s Removal Is Not A Judicial Reset Agenda

Felix Kwakye Ofosu || Ousted Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo

Speaking on Joy News’ “The Pulse” on September 1, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu categorically declared that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s dismissal “has nothing to do with resetting the judiciary.” He emphasized that the idea of “resetting the judiciary” merely refers to ensuring fairness and balance in how the courts function — nothing more.

He went on to say that, the president did not go above his authority or unjustly meddle in judicial independence, and that his actions were entirely within the bounds of the constitution. He said, the ruling upheld the idea that all people are equal before the law and was a “win for the rule of law.”

Felix Kwakye Ofosu insisted that the dismissal was solely a constitutional, rule-of-law issue and dismissed any idea that it was a part of a political plan to “reset” or reform the judiciary.

On September 1, 2025, Chief Justice Torkornoo was formally fired by President John Dramani Mahama after a constitutional investigation revealed grounds for “misbehavior.”
