World Cup 2026Q: Black Stars Edge Closer To Qualification With A 5-0 Win Over CAR

Ghana’s Black Stars defeated the Central African Republic (CAR) to almost guarantee their spot in the 2026 World Cup. Ghana’s decisive 5-0 victory over CAR in Morocco puts them just one point away from qualifying.

Ghana had been in control since the first whistle, but this was made clear in the second half when they scored three goals to win handily.

In the twenty-first minute, Mohammed Kudus sent a corner to Mohammed Salisu, who headed it in to open the scoring.

Ghana continued to exert pressure, and just after halftime, captain Jordan Ayew’s deft ball to Thomas Partey increased the lead.

Alexander Djiku was subsequently set up by Jordan Ayew to make it 3-0. Ayew himself later added to the scoring to make it 4-0.

Substitutes Kamaldeen Sulemana and Joseph Paintsil teamed to score the fifth goal and complete the blowout with just minutes left in the game.

In the 64th minute, CAR began to put pressure on Ghana to get a consolation goal, but Benjamin Asare, Ghana’s goalkeeper, held firm and kept the score clean.

Ghana is now within striking reach of sealing their spot in the expanded 48-team competition in North America after their 5-0 victory keeps them atop Group I.

Ghana had also defeated CAR 4-3 in a thrilling match in Kumasi in the previous match.

Ghana has gone undefeated in World Cup qualifying during both of Addo’s coaching stints.

In the days before the game, Ghana had dropped just five points in the qualifiers (from a loss to Comoros and a draw with Chad).

CAR, meanwhile, had effectively been eliminated from contention, placing fifth with only 5 points from 8 matches.

The game was staged at Stade d’Honneur de Meknès, a neutral venue in Morocco.

Ghana’s goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, whose strong performances had earned him the number one spot, continued his run of clean sheets.
