Broadcast journalist Omanhene Kwabena Asante has expressed grave concern over what he describes as the rising trend of gayism in Ghana. According to him, the growth of LGBTQ+ activities in the country is becoming more visible and widespread, particularly in public gatherings and social events.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program on Monday, June 23, 2025, Omanhene questioned why authorities appear unconcerned about what he sees as a growing social challenge. He noted that same-sex interactions and behaviors are now being openly displayed at parties and other public events in Ghana.

“I don’t understand why this issue is not being addressed with the urgency it deserves,” Omanhene stated during the show. “Now, it’s not even happening behind closed doors anymore — it’s out there in the open, especially at these big parties. And the authorities are just looking on?”

His comments have sparked renewed conversation about Ghana’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights and activities, a topic that has consistently divided public opinion. While homosexuality remains illegal in Ghana, human rights activists continue to advocate for the protection and inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals, citing constitutional freedoms and global human rights standards.

Meanwhile, conservative voices like Omanhene continue to call for stricter enforcement of the country’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws, arguing that the perceived moral fabric of society is at stake.
