Black Stars’ Daniel Opare Officially Retires From Professional Football

Former Ghana international Daniel Opare has announced his retirement from professional football, drawing the curtain on a career that stretched over a decade across clubs in Europe and Africa.

The 34-year-old revealed his decision in a statement on social media, where he thanked his family, coaches, teammates and fans for their unwavering support. He reflected on the sport’s impact on his life, describing football as a source of unforgettable memories, important lessons and enduring relationships.

Opare, a dynamic right-back admired for his pace and work ethic, first gained national attention after his standout performances at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He was part of the historic Black Satellites squad that became the first African team to win the tournament. His exploits earned him moves across Europe, where he played for Real Madrid Castilla, Standard Liège, FC Porto, Augsburg, Zulte Waregem and RFC Seraing.

He went on to make over 20 appearances for the Black Stars and featured at major competitions, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Despite injury setbacks at various points, Opare remained respected for his determination and professionalism.
