In a forthright interview on Adom TV from Akyem, lawyer and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, delivered a sharp critique of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, likening his temperament to an uncontrollable condition.
“Character is like diarrhoea – you can’t hide it forever,” Atta Akyea said, defending his earlier warning about choosing a presidential candidate who might “embarrass Ghana on the international stage.”
He argued that Agyapong’s repeated inflammatory outbursts make him unsuitable for high office, especially in global settings where diplomacy and restraint are essential. To support his claim, he referenced several past incidents, including Agyapong’s harsh verbal attacks on leading figures such as former President Nana Akufo-Addo and other senior party members.
“If you have diarrhoea and take medication, it doesn’t mean it has stopped… it will show again,” the former Works and Housing Minister added, suggesting that Agyapong’s “true nature” inevitably resurfaces despite periods of calm.
Atta Akyea’s remarks reflect his broader push for measured leadership as the NPP navigates its flagbearer contest. He has openly praised Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as a more suitable choice, framing the debate as part of a larger struggle over the party’s direction and its responsibility to uphold national dignity.

Supporters of Agyapong quickly responded online, accusing Atta Akyea of double standards given his own history of pointed commentary. The exchange highlights growing tensions within the NPP as internal divisions deepen amid calls for accountability and unity.
For Agyapong—renowned for his blunt communication style and business background—the criticism underscores the ongoing debate over whether his confrontational approach strengthens or undermines his political ambitions.
