Bawumia Surrounded By ‘Greedy And Selfish’ People — Kofi Tonto Claims

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former aide to Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Kofi Tonto, has cautioned voters against voting for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming NPP’s 2026 general elections, citing concerns over the people surrounding him.

According to his write up on facebook, Kofi Tonto expressed disappointment that Dr. Bawumia continues to associate himself with what he described as the same group of “greedy and selfish” appointees who served under the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Kofi Tonto wrote on Facebook:

“Don’t vote for Bawumia, he will surround himself with the same “greedy and selfish” Akufo-Addo appointees, they say. Today, they are jubilating because one of the top Akufo-Addo appointees has joined their camp. Not forgetting Amewu, Sticka and the rest.

He argued that the Vice President’s close ties with these individuals raise doubts about his ability to bring about meaningful change, should he become president.

“The problem is not just Bawumia himself, but the people he has chosen to surround himself with. These are the same individuals whose actions have disappointed many Ghanaians. They are greedy, selfish, and disconnected from the reality of ordinary citizens,” Kofi Tonto is quoted as saying.

He added that Ghanaians have become increasingly frustrated with the current government’s leadership style, corruption allegations, and economic mismanagement — issues he believes Bawumia’s campaign has not sufficiently addressed.

Tonto further urged party faithful and voters to demand accountability and integrity from all presidential aspirants, stressing that Ghana cannot afford to continue on its current trajectory.

“If we truly want a new direction, then we must not repeat the same mistakes. Change must start with the people we choose to lead us,” he added.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was elected as the NPP’s flagbearer, has not yet responded to Tonto’s comments. However, his campaign team has consistently emphasized his commitment to economic transformation, digital innovation, and youth empowerment.

Political observers note that Kofi Tonto’s remarks reflect growing internal tensions within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2026 general elections.
