Today, Tuesday, October 28, 2025, is the day that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) is officially commencing the Cedi@60 celebration.
The Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) in Accra, Ghana, will host the event.
President John Dramani Mahama will be the launch’s honored guest. The celebration commemorates 60 years of the cedi’s monetary sovereignty, according to the BoG.
Additionally, addressing the issue of dollarization in the economy and fostering national pride in the cedi as Ghana’s sole legal money are two of the celebration’s goals.
Exhibitions, public education on currency security features and “clean note” initiatives, and a roadshow around regions are some of the additional events planned for the anniversary.
Ghana’s Democracy Is Not Any Better— Kwaku Kwarteng
In July 1965, the Ghanaian cedi became the country’s official currency. The cedi has played a significant part in Ghana’s monetary and economic history over the past 60 years, undergoing numerous reforms and currency redesigns.
In addition to commemorating “Cedi@60,” the BoG is using the occasion to engage the public in the currency’s future role, strengthen currency confidence, and lessen the dominance of foreign currencies in local commerce.
