Otumfuo Gives Green Light For Enstoolment Of New Bechem Chief

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has given his approval to the candidate nominated by the Bechemhemaa, Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II, to ascend the male stool of Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region.

The approval was granted following a meeting of the Asanteman Council held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday, October 16, 2025.

According to palace sources, the Bechemhemaa, Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II, presented her chosen candidate to the Asanteman Council in accordance with Asante custom and tradition. After careful deliberations, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II confirmed the nomination, officially granting his blessing for the enstoolment process to proceed.

The new chief, whose identity will be formally announced during the traditional swearing-in ceremony, is expected to continue the legacy of leadership, unity, and development within the Bechem Traditional Area.

The Asantehene, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of peace and collaboration between the newly nominated chief and the queenmother, urging them to work hand in hand to promote progress in Bechem and strengthen the bond between the Ahafo Region and the Golden Stool.

Otumfuo also cautioned against chieftaincy disputes, reminding all factions within the traditional area to respect the decision of the Bechemhemaa and the authority of the Golden Stool. He stated that the selection and approval process followed due customary procedures and should therefore be accepted by all.

Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II expressed her gratitude to the Asantehene and the Asanteman Council for their guidance and support, assuring that she would continue to promote harmony and uphold Asante cultural values in her community.

The official outdooring and swearing-in ceremony of the new Bechem chief is expected to take place in the coming weeks, marking a new chapter in the leadership of one of Ahafo’s most prominent traditional areas.
