Entertainment pundit and political commentator Nana Frimpong Ziega has predicted that Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George will be affected in the next ministerial reshuffle to be carried out by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on United Showbiz on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Ziega stated that the outspoken minister’s recent public banter with DSTV could cost him his position in government.
“You mark it on the wall — President Mahama will take him off,” Ziega declared confidently during the show.
According to him, the President is likely to act soon to maintain harmony within his administration and to avoid any potential diplomatic or corporate friction stemming from the controversy.
Ziega emphasized that while the Ningo-Prampram MP is a strong and hardworking minister, his confrontational approach in some public matters has attracted unnecessary tension, which the President may want to calm through a reshuffle.
The pundit’s comments have sparked reactions among viewers and political watchers, with many waiting to see whether his prediction will come true when the next reshuffle is announced.
Sam George Vs DSTV
The minister has pushed for a 30% reduction in DSTV subscription fees for Ghanaians. He argues that despite improvements in the value of the Ghanaian cedi and economic relief in some areas, DSTV has not lowered their prices accordingly.
The Minister threatened to have DSTV’s broadcasting license suspended via the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they did not reduce their prices by certain deadlines (e.g. August 7, 2025).
MultiChoice rejected the 30% cut as “not tenable,” saying that service quality, cost structures, and other economic pressures make such a steep cut unrealistic.
They offered counter-proposals, like freezing prices or limiting revenue remittances to headquarters. The Minister rejected these counter-offers as “illogical” because they do not directly reduce what Ghanaians are paying.
Ama Daaku To Sam George: Focus On GBC, Not DStv
Eventually, an agreement was reached with MultiChoice to provide a “value upgrade” on DSTV packages. This involves automatically giving existing subscribers higher-tier bouquets (more channels or features) at no extra cost. The upgrades translate to significant value gains (33%-50%) depending on the bouquet.
The opposition (Minority in Parliament, the NPP) has criticized Sam George, accusing him of failing to deliver the promised 30% reduction and of misleading Ghanaians. Calls have been made for his resignation.
Supporters and the Majority in Parliament are defending him, saying there’s no basis for removing him over this issue given that “value upgrades” have been rolled out and that political pressure from opponents is expected.
