The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially reopened the school selection process for final-year Junior High School (JHS) students seeking placement into Senior High Schools (SHS), Technical, and Vocational Institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Beginning in May 2025, students, parents, and school heads are expected to actively engage in the selection process to ensure a smooth and transparent placement exercise. The GES has emphasized the importance of early participation and accurate selection to avoid the last-minute rush and errors that could affect placements.
This year’s process includes enhanced guidance mechanisms to help students make informed decisions. School authorities have been tasked with organizing orientation sessions and providing support materials such as the updated 2025 School Register and the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) guidebook.
According to the GES, students will be allowed to select up to six schools based on their academic performance, interests, and proximity. Additionally, special attention is being given to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) schools, as the government pushes to boost enrollment in technical and scientific disciplines.
Our Education System Should Be Protected From Politics— Asantehene
GES officials urge all stakeholders—including teachers, parents, and guardians—to work closely with students during this critical phase of their educational journey. The school selection window will remain open throughout May, with final submissions expected before the start of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The Ministry of Education has reassured the public that the placement system remains fair, merit-based, and transparent, and continues to be guided by student choice and performance.
For further information and assistance, students and parents are encouraged to consult their school authorities or visit the official GES and CSSPS websites.
